Little Meadow Putting Course

by | May 2, 2023 | Where to Play

When it comes to preparing for your round, practicing on a putting course is an excellent choice. As the old adage goes, “Drive for Show, Putt for Dough.” To that end, architect John Fought has designed the Little Meadow Putting Course at Black Butte Ranch in Oregon.

The putting course is designed as a continuous loop that allows players to enjoy it in both directions. With holes ranging from 45 to 115 feet, it offers a unique and exciting experience. The course is situated next to the northeast corner of the ninth fairway of the Big Meadow course, and it’s conveniently located near the resort’s tennis courts and pub.

Though it’s designed as a 12-hole putting course, each hole at Little Meadow can be shortened or lengthened, allowing golfers to try their hand at eighteen shorter holes or nine longer holes; the common attributes of each hole, no matter the length, are thoughtfully designed contours, a variety of short fairway-like terrains, and rock formations for a touch of variety.

There is also plenty of room to change tee and hole locations on any given day. Each hole will feature interesting contours that will test even the best putters. All of the holes will have their own ‘fairway’ and provide ample variety. Several rock formations are integrated into the course along with the native landscape to ensure this entire area is unique. This facility appeals to all kinds of golfers, both expert and novice, both young and old.

“It is a unique facility in that it is a continuous course that is connected from start to finish,” said architect John Fought. “And you can play multiple routings, including a reverse of the golf holes. The contours provide for a lot of ball movement, making all putts interesting.”

“Little Meadow has been an amazing success so far,” said Fought. “Hundreds of people play the Little Meadow course every day.”
