Steven Fisk Seizes Glory with Thrilling Sanderson Farms Victory

by | Oct 5, 2025 | Pro News

Steven Fisk delivered a dazzling final-round performance at the Sanderson Farms Championship, carding an 8-under-par 64 that culminated in a dramatic trio of birdies on the closing holes. With the pressure mounting and the leaderboard tightening, Fisk remained composed and clinical, attacking pins with precision and rolling in clutch putts on 16, 17, and 18 to surge past South African contender Garrick Higgo. The Sunday fireworks at the Country Club of Jackson electrified the Mississippi crowd, as Fisk’s late charge transformed a tense chase into a triumphant finish.

The victory marked a career-defining breakthrough for the 28-year-old PGA Tour rookie, who captured his maiden title in emphatic fashion. His four-day total of 24-under-par over the 7,461-yard layout not only showcased his scoring prowess but also his mental fortitude under pressure. Fisk’s final tally edged Higgo by two strokes, with the runner-up posting a solid 68. Along with the trophy and a wave of newfound recognition, Fisk pocketed a winner’s check of $1.08 million.

“We all think we’re good enough to compete out here and to win, and to come out here today and play like I did – and finally I truly know that I’m good enough to be a PGA Tour winner – is really cool,” Fisk said.

Steven Fisk: Battle Down the Stretch

Higgo began the final day with a two-shot lead over Fisk and Danny Walker, who finished tied for third with Rasmus Højgaard and Vince Whaley at 19 under. Higgo’s back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 10 and 11 dropped him out of the lead, but he charged back with four consecutive birdies on holes 13-16.

“Garrick was playing so well today, especially down the stretch,” said Fisk, who was paired with the South African in the final twosome. “The way Garrick was playing there coming down the stretch, he wasn’t going away.”

Higgo pulled into a tie with Fisk when he made a 7-foot birdie putt on the short par-4 15th, and Fisk missed a 5-foot birdie putt. Both men birdied the par-4 16th, Fisk sinking a 41-foot putt and Higgo making an 11-footer. But that was his last birdie of the day.

On the par-4 17th, Fisk hit a wedge to 3 feet for a go-ahead birdie when Higgo lipped out his birdie putt of just over 3 feet. On the 18th hole, Fisk hit his 151-yard approach to just under 4 feet and made that putt for an impressive victory after Higgo two-putted for par from 30 feet.

“I came out today with an attitude that nothing was going to stop me,” Fisk said. “I just felt like I’d be standing right here, right now, before the round started. I know I’m good enough. I could do it.”
Good finish for Højgaard.

Rasmus Højgaard’s tie for third after playing the previous week on the winning European Team at the Ryder Cup was his best finish in a standard stroke-play event in 41 starts on the Tour. Earlier this year, he and his twin brother, Nicolai, finished second in the team competition at the Zurich Classic.

Taylor Montgomery, who tied for sixth at 17 under, had a four-round total of 94 putts, the fewest putts by any player in a single tournament this season … After making the 36-hole cut on the number, Monday qualifier Doc Redman tied for ninth at 16 under to earn a spot in the 2025 Bank of Utah Championship.
