A golf course can serve up several different lighting conditions before a player reaches the turn. The opening tee sits in full sunshine. A fairway disappears beneath mature trees. Clouds gather as the group approaches an exposed green. Throughout the round, golfers keep making visual decisions about targets, landing areas, lies and putting lines.
POVEC sunglasses offer an intriguing way to manage that changing environment. The brand’s C1 performance eyewear lets the wearer switch between two tint settings with a swipe on the temple. According to POVEC, the change takes less than one second. For golfers, that creates a compelling possibility: adjusting sunglasses to the shot ahead without reaching into the bag for another pair.
Why POVEC Was Created
POVEC was inspired by the challenge of seeing comfortably when moving between sunshine and shade.
In the brand’s early account of its beginnings, co-founder Alexis was mountain biking in the Alps when he came out of a shaded forest into strong sunlight. The sudden brightness obscured his view of the trail, and he crashed after his wheel struck a rock.
That experience helped inspire a search for eyewear that could change with the surroundings. Alexis joined forces with an optical scientist and an outdoor equipment specialist to develop sunglasses that gave the wearer more control over incoming light.
Their goal was practical. Someone enjoying the outdoors should be able to adjust the tint quickly and keep moving, whether riding a trail, walking through woodland or spending an afternoon on a golf course.
Golf unfolds at a different pace from mountain biking, but changing light remains part of the experience. A player may stand in full sunshine on the tee, walk through shade beside the fairway and finish the hole on an exposed green.
POVEC’s approach gives that player a simple way to adjust as they go.
A Design That Keeps Things Simple
The design philosophy behind POVEC centers on making the adjustment easy to use.
The C1 changes tint when the wearer swipes across the logo area on the right side of the frame. You don’t need to remove a lens or use a phone. The same pair stays in place while the wearer chooses a lighter or darker view.
“With the C1, we aren’t just launching new sunglasses, we are introducing a new way of managing light,” said James Zhang, POVEC’s research and development director.
That thinking extends to the frame. The C1 has a curved sports shape and weighs about 36 grams. Three included nose-pad sizes let you personalize the fit for long stretches outdoors.
The available styles add variety to that sporty design. Matte Black frames come with either Green Revo or Gold Revo lenses. Arctic White pairs with Green Revo lenses, while Denim Blue pairs with Gold Revo lenses.
Each combination uses the same adjustable tint system. The frame and lens finish let golfers choose a look they enjoy, while the lighter and darker settings handle changes in daylight. The C1 is currently listed at $249.
Choosing a POVEC Tint for the Conditions
The C1 offers two tint settings, making the choice straightforward.
Dark Mode is intended for bright sunshine. It is a useful starting point for an open course, a midday round, or a practice session with strong daylight across the range.
Clear Mode is the lighter setting, intended for cloudy weather and lower-light outdoor conditions. Despite its name, it still has a sunglass tint. It is designed for daytime use when a darker lens may feel unnecessary.
For golfers, the best setting is the one that provides a comfortable view of the shot ahead.
On a sunny morning, the darker tint might suit the opening holes. If clouds arrive later in the round, a swipe switches the glasses to the lighter setting. You can make the same adjustment when moving from an exposed fairway into the shade of mature trees.
Green Revo and Gold Revo offer different lens finishes, while both provide two tint settings. Golfers can choose their preferred appearance and then use the tint adjustment to suit the light throughout the day.
From the Tee to the Fairway
A tree-lined par four offers a good example of how POVEC sunglasses can fit into a round.
Standing on a sunny tee, a golfer selects the darker tint before choosing a target. After the drive, the walk toward the ball passes through a shaded section of the course. A quick swipe brings the lenses to the lighter setting.
If the approach shot is played from the open fairway, the darker tint is available again before the player begins preparing for the shot.
The adjustment can become part of the time between shots, alongside checking the distance and choosing a club. It lets golfers manage brightness while keeping their sunglasses on.
Courses with a mixture of wooded holes and open stretches provide frequent opportunities to use both settings. The same is true on days when passing clouds repeatedly change the light.
Made for Time Outdoors
A full round involves more than the moments spent hitting shots. There are walks between holes, waits on tees, and conversations beside the green. Comfort matters throughout that time.
The C1’s lightweight frame and choice of nose pads reflect its outdoor roots. Its sports shape and adjustable lenses create a pair built for extended wear.
Both tint settings provide UV protection, and the glasses are suitable for light rain. The tint system is rechargeable via USB-C, with a stated battery life of up to 28 days based on four hours of daily wear.
Beyond the Final Hole
Adjustable sunglasses can still be useful after the scorecard is signed.
A golfer might leave the course for a walk, spend time outside with family, or head to the practice range later in the day. The same lighter and darker settings remain available as the afternoon changes.
That versatility reflects the idea behind POVEC: one pair of sunglasses that gives the wearer a choice as the surroundings change.
On the golf course, it is a small adjustment with a clear purpose. From the first sunny tee to the shaded walk off the final green, POVEC gives golfers an easy way to find a comfortable view.
