After managing one of the most highly successful President’s Cups, Adam Sperling has been named executive director for the Truist Championship when it returns to Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte in 2026.
Professional golf has become a staple of the Queen City’s sports and social calendar, and the Truist Championship is a signature event on the TOUR’s regular season, featuring elevated status and prize money.
“Adam is a purposeful leader with an outstanding track record, and we look forward to working with him and the PGA TOUR to create an exceptional championship event,” said Truist Chairman and CEO Bill Rogers. “We at Truist are here to inspire and build better lives and communities, and the Truist Championship fulfills that purpose with a deep and meaningful impact on the community.”
Sperling ushers in a new era caring for the objectives of a new title sponsor. Truist, a Charlotte-based bank signed an agreement through 2031 after Wells Fargo announced it would not renew its title sponsorship.
“Our family has called this city home since 2018, so I know firsthand the passion and pride our fans have for this great event, and the expectation from all parties that we continue to raise the bar for years to come,” said Sperling.
Following the 2022 Presidents Cup, Sperling remained at Quail Hollow Club as the director of professional golf. He helped create the club’s relationship with ESPN BET, the mobile sports betting business that was legalized in North Carolina last spring. He expects sports betting to continue to be present at future events there.
Sperling also helped negotiate Quail Hollow Club’s continued partnership with the TOUR and developed a strategy for the PGA Championship in May.
“Adam brings an incredible passion for the game, a proven track record of organizing exceptional events, and a commitment to creating memorable experiences for our players, families, and community,” added Quail Hollow Club president Johnny Harris.
The first Truist Championship will be staged in Philadelphia, allowing this year’s second major to be held at Quail Hollow for the second time. The TOUR announced that Joie Chitwood will continue to serve as executive director for that one-off event and will remain in that role through the end of the 2025 tournament.
Truist was announced as the new title sponsor of the PGA TOUR’s longtime Charlotte stop in August 2024. The agreement is for seven years. One of eight Signature Events on the 2025 TOUR schedule, it features the game’s top players and offers FedExCup points (700 points to the winner). Over the years, the tournament has raised more than $30 million for charitable organizations.
