Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club – Ski Town USA Has Golf Game, Too

Steamboat Springs, Colorado, has several monikers, including Ski Town USA and the home of Champagne Powder. And this winter, it’s definitely living up to the billing with over 300 inches of dry, fluffy powder through January and on track to be one of the biggest snow years in the ski area’s 36-year history.

But as the saying goes in Steamboat, folks come for the winter and stay for the summer.

And summer in Steamboat means golf at elevation amid the aspen trees, fly fishing the local rivers, soaking in the town’s namesake hot springs, and hiking and biking the area’s network of trails.

Focusing on golf, this authentic ranch town offers several enticing options.

Catamount Ranch and Club is a par-72 gem designed by the vastly underrated Tom Weiskopf. It embodies the best of golf played in the mountains: endless vistas, big elevation changes, and (hopefully) long drives.

Four sets of tees accommodate all levels of golfers, with the tips measuring just over 7,000 yards. The front nine meanders throughout the valley floor, with holes cut from aspen groves along banks of the Yampa River. The back nine heads up into the mountains and back down, taking full advantage of the property’s natural undulations.

Besides Catamount, Haymaker is another excellent option for golf in Steamboat Springs. One of Colorado’s top public tracks, Haymaker offers five sets of tees, starting with the 2,700-yard Family tees and ranging up to the 7,300-yard tips. Haymaker is also a top Nordic skiing facility when the snow flies.

Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club, operated by Troon, should also make it onto any avid golfer’s must-play list. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, the course is perennially ranked among the top 10 resort courses in the state by Colorado Golf Magazine. It measures anywhere from 5,800 yards from the Copper tees to 6,700 from the Black tees.

Steamboat Grand is the area’s premier place to stay for lodging, offering 328 beautifully appointed hotel rooms, spacious condos, and luxurious penthouses just steps from the base of the ski area. Other Steamboat hotel options include the Sheraton Steamboat Resort, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Holiday Inn, and La Quinta.

On the topic of coming for the winter and staying for the summer, vacation homes in Steamboat continue to be popular, with buyers seeking wide-open spaces and room for their families to roam.

One particularly popular community is Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club, a 1,216-acre luxury ranch community bordering Catamount in Steamboat’s South Valley.

We caught up with Suzanne Schlicht, Senior Vice President and Director of Sales at Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club, who told us, “We’ve experienced unprecedented sales volume over the last several years resulting in 40 of the community’s 63 total homesites now being sold. The community is on the fast track for buildout with 12 currently completed homes, six homes to completed in 2023, and ten more to-be completed in 2024.”

From a golfer’s perspective, Alpine Mountain Ranch’s Premium Golf Homesites offer views of, and cart path access to, the Catamount golf course. These five-acre homesites with panoramic views of the Flat Tops wilderness area are priced from $2MM.

And one of those remaining golf homesites offers a custom market home called the “Vestige” that is slated to be completed by May 2023. The community’s website says this magnificent home pays homage to landmarks and traditions of the past while celebrating modern living in an exquisite mountain-contemporary design. Featuring clean, modern lines with a touch of rustic inspiration, this one-of-a-kind home features 5,353 finished square feet with 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and a 3.5-car garage.

Perched on a five-acre Premium Golf Homesite, the Vestige residence features dramatic views of the Flat Tops Mountains with the Catamount golf course in the foreground.

“Vestige offers everything our buyers tell us they want — amazing views, open floorplan, Mountain Modern design, private primary suite, indoor/outdoor spaces, and room to entertain family and friends”, said Dylon Cook, Vice President of Design and Construction for Alpine Master Builders. “And you don’t have to wait to enjoy it – it’ll be move-in ready this Summer.

Schlicht points out that Steamboat Ski Resort’s ongoing $200M Full Steam Ahead program has never been a better time for an investment in real estate in Steamboat Springs. This expansion and improvement program includes new chair lifts, a relocated learning center, and 650 acres of expanded ski terrain, making Steamboat the second-largest resort in Colorado.

Alongside Steamboat making impressive enhancements at the ski area, Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club has made recent improvements at the ranch with the completion of two new cabins for owners’ use and the release of the final 13 premium Upland Preserve homesites priced from $3M. These to go along with the community’s 900 acres of wildlife preserve and open space, Owners’ Lodge, concierge services, fishing lake, equestrian facilities, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing, a private backcountry cabin, 10+ miles of private trails, private fishing on a 1.5-mile section of the Yampa River, and exclusive membership opportunities at the five-star, slope-side Alpine Mountain Summit Club, located at One Steamboat Place. Whew!
