Dream Golf Resorts Coming of Age

by | Jul 5, 2024 | Where to Play

With its latest course – Sedge Valley – now open at Sand Valley Golf Resort in Nekoosa, WI., Dream Golf Resorts is turning its attention to Rodeo Dunes along Colorado’s front range and Wild Spring Dunes near Nacogdoches in East Texas. Sedge Valley – and the now-under-construction The Commons at Sand Valley – along with Rodeo Dunes and Wild Spring Dunes, each represent the maturing of Dream Golf Resorts.

Although the Keiser family – father Mike and sons Michael and Chris – founded Bandon Dunes 25 years ago along the rugged coastline of southern Oregon – it’s only been the past year or so that the Keisers created Dream Golf Resorts as the parent company for Bandon Dunes, Sand Valley, Rodeo Dunes and Wild Spring Dunes. A fifth resort property is quietly in the planning stages.

“We have a team in place whose primary focus is to support the developments of the new resorts and the operations of the existing resorts,’’ Tom Farrell, Dream Resorts’ affable vice president of communications, told me.

“The idea was that we needed to prepare for a collection of golf resorts. In order to do that, there are certain things you can replicate and certain things you can’t. Our mission is to promote a standard set of values and practices to promote the overall collection. Our mission at Dream Golf is to build world-class golf courses anyone can play.’’

While Dream Golf Resorts as an entity technically didn’t exist until a few months ago, the Keisers’ vision of great public golf always has existed. Rodeo Dunes, a 4,000-acre property that can hold at least six courses, and Wild Spring Dunes, with a terrain that includes steep ravines, meadows and pine trees, each will to reinforce that vision.

Rodeo Dunes’ first course – designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw – is set to open in 2026. A second course, designed by Jim Craig, will follow. Craig is currently working on The Commons at Sand Valley. Tom Doak, who designed Sedge Valley and The Lido at Sand Valley, is designing the first course at Wild Spring Dunes. Coore and Crenshaw have routed a second course on what is considered the ”wilderness’’ side of the 2,400-acre property.

“Rodeo Dunes is a truly gifted piece of land,’’ Ferrell said. “Maybe the best land for ‘pure’ golf that Dream Golf has ever had.

“At Wild Spring Dunes… I don’t  know of any person who thinks Texas looks like this. It’s an amazing piece of property.’’
