Golf is undergoing a fascinating evolution, and one of its most influential advocates is none other than Sir Nick Faldo. Renowned as a six-time major champion, Faldo brings a wealth of experience and passion to the forefront of the game. His design firm, Faldo Design, has recently joined forces with Himalayas Golf to unveil a groundbreaking initiative called ‘Golf in Small Spaces.’
This innovative program is dedicated to expanding accessibility to golf and breaking traditional boundaries by reimagining where and how the game can be enjoyed. From urban parks to compact backyards, ‘Golf in Small Spaces’ seeks to inspire players of all ages and skill levels to embrace the sport in creative new environments, fostering a more inclusive golfing community.
This collaboration seeks to enhance the accessibility and enjoyment of golf by creating compact, purpose-built facilities tailored for urban settings and locations with limited land availability.
Golf in Small Spaces Initiative
The ‘Golf in Small Spaces’ initiative, which provides the option of natural grass, synthetic turf, or hybrid grass/synthetic, offers a variety of solutions designed for modern lifestyles, including:
- Small Spaces Courses: Single or multiple short holes with central tee boxes.
- Short Courses: Backyard-style layouts inspired by Dave Pelz’s backyard research and training center.
- Putting Courses: Premium designs offering enhanced playability and additional revenue opportunities.
- Less Than 18-Hole Courses: Compact 3, 6, 9 or 12-hole layouts.
- Indoor Practice Areas: Simulators, putting greens, and short game zones for year-round practice and instruction.
- Smart Ranges: Driving ranges featuring smart design elements like water recirculation and automatic ball collection.
“Golf in Small Spaces provides functional and sustainable solutions for golf outside of conventional green grass courses,” said Sir Nick Faldo. “I am thrilled to bring this to life with Paul Jansen and Himalayas Golf.”
Paul Jansen, President of Himalayas Golf, emphasized the initiative’s potential impact: “Traditional golf takes a long time, requires a lot of land, and can be intimidating for newcomers. ‘Golf in Small Spaces offers an accessible alternative—shorter formats that need less space and help players build skills. It’s about making the game more inviting and sustainable for everyone.”
With shorter play formats and lower maintenance needs, ‘Golf in Small Spaces’ helps attract new players while keeping existing golfers engaged.
