NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship

by | Oct 7, 2024 | News

Lake County, Florida’s Mission Resort + Club was selected as the NCAA’s choice to host the 2027 Division II Women’s Golf Championship hosted by Rollins College.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Greater Orlando Sports Commission and bring the excitement and prestige of NCAA Division II national championships back to Central Florida,” said Rollins College Associate Vice President of Athletics Pennie Parker.  “Orlando is one of the top destinations for amateur sporting events, and we take great pride in providing the NCAA with a first-class experience for student-athletes from around the country.”

Located in the town of Howey-in-the-Hills, Mission Resort, is centrally located and just a 35-minute drive northwest of Orlando or an 80-minute drive northeast of Tampa, and home to two championship golf courses.

The El Campeón (The Champion) layout, built in 1917 by George O’Neil, is one of the oldest courses in the South with a classic design featuring unusually sharp elevation changes in the typically flat Central Florida terrain. It regularly plays host to professional, college and high school tournaments.

Las Colinas (The Hills) was created in 1992 by Arnold Palmer Invitational winner Gary Koch. It lives up to its name, with wide fairways rolling over gentle rises. Both courses at Mission Resort feature undulating greens surrounded by tropical vegetation and incorporate significant water hazards on many holes.

NCAA championship events like this attract spectators and families throughout the state of Florida and from across the United States, driving economic impact to hotels, restaurants, and attractions in the area.

In recent years, Rollins College has hosted the 2024 NCAA DII Spring Sports Festivals and multiple tennis championships. In 2025, it will once again welcome the NCAA DII Men’s and Women’s Tennis title events.

This time, the NCAA championships bidding process saw 293 different organizations submit bids to host at least one of the 87 championships available for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 academic years.
