I recall six-time PGA TOUR winner Tony Finau saying his body is the most important piece of equipment he has.
With that premise in mind, during each week of competition, the world’s premier men’s golf circuit offers its members a mobile fitness and physical therapy facility known as The PGA TOUR Training Center.
These tractor-trailers are staffed by professional physical therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers who work long days supporting players’ rehabilitative needs, preventive care, and personal conditioning and stretching programs.
Usually located just a quick walk from the clubhouse at each event, they are highly frequented by players each week on both the PGA TOUR and the PGA TOUR Champions.
66-year-old Bernhardt Langer, a 46-time winner of the PGA Champions, is keenly focused on flexibility. The two-time Masters Champion credits his pre and post-round stretching and core training routine for relieving pain in his ailing back. Langer’s most recent victory came in last year’s U.S. Senior Open, and he shows no sign of slowing down.
The rigs are 16½ feet wide, over 14 feet high, and 60 feet long. There are actually two distinct sets of trailers to keep pace with the rigorous schedule of tournaments, and each contains state-of-the-art fitness and therapy equipment.
WHOOP fitness wearables, Hyperice recovery devices, and GolfForever, used for strength and flexibility, have partnered with the TOUR in this health and wellness initiative.
Keegan Bradley, another six-time winner on TOUR, told me just before his opening round at the Valspar Championship that he frequently uses the services.
“It’s great, Bradley said. “We need to keep our bodies feeling good, and they help us feel better.”
The new Recovery Center is an extension of the Player Performance Center and Physical Therapy Trailers and is staffed by a team of athletic trainers.
