Punta Mita Food and Golf

Jack Nicklaus Signature golf, gourmet cuisine from some of Mexico’s top chefs, and luxury stays at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort.  That’s a December to remember. That is, on Dec. 2-5, 2021, the 10th Edition of Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf 2021 will showcase the best of with curated dining and golf experiences.

A highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the restoration to Pacifico Course, the Nicklaus Signature course at Punta Minta Golf Club since it has been one of Mexico’s “must play’’ courses since it opened in 1999.

Earlier this year, Punta Mita, the ultra luxury resort and residential community situated in Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit, announced a five-year restoration project for the development’s Pacifico and Bahia Golf Courses. Phase One started this past April and focused on each of the 19 Pacifico Golf Course greens, bunkers and surrounds, as well as the conclusion of a tee replacement project. Nineteen greens? Pacifico’s famed “Tail of the Whale’’ island green that serves as “3B’’ on the par-three, third hole.

Each of the greens are being re-grassed with TifEagle and the surrounds with Trinity Zoysia. Phase One is slated to be completed in November 2021.  Phase Two will launch in April 2022 with a focus on the Bahia greens and surrounds and completion of the tee boxes. Plans for Phases Three and Four tentatively include replacement of existing fairways with Trinity Zoysia grass seen in the tees and green surrounds. Project planning allows that each course will be open for play during the destination’s high season from November to April.

“The interaction between the visiting Chefs and local culinary talent is an opportunity for all to learn both new techniques and trends in the use of local produce which consequently leads to elevating the gourmet experiences in the restaurant in and around the destination,’’ said Carl Emberson, director of marketing and operations at Punta Mita.

This year’s event, Emberson said, will be smaller than the previous editions on purpose, “as we continue to encourage smaller events in Punta Mita post-pandemic.’’

“We will have 140 participants in the golf tournament, 250 for the opening evening and closing events, while the lunches and dinners will be smaller up to 50 guests – all alfresco.  And in keeping with the exclusiveness of the event – it is intimate and permits mingling.’’

The myriad of culinary within our 1,500-acre enclave will include Mexican, American, Japanese and Asian Fusion concepts.

“Our chefs pride themselves on the creativity of their dishes and the quality of their ingredients, which serve as perfect elements to create the finest gourmet meals,’’ Emberson said. “This December we are thrilled to be launching two new restaurants at Kupuri Beach Club: An Asian-Mexican concept called ‘K at Kupuri’ and another outlet, ‘Asai Cuisine’ focusing on Japanese cuisine.”
