St Regis Punta Mita Honors Nature and Culture

by | Aug 9, 2024 | Travel

The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort – one of my favorite Mexico destinations – recently debuted a $45 million top-to-bottom, resort-wide transformation that pays homage to its resort’s natural surroundings and the area’s rich cultural heritage.

The refreshed design includes:

  • Enhancements to all common areas and public spaces, including lobby and Lobby Bar.
  • Renovated accommodations –120 guest rooms, villas, and ocean and garden view suites – now include luxurious and locally inspired interiors featuring local Mexican art, handcrafted furnishings and hacienda structures.
  • Five new beachfront villas – the resort’s most prestigious accommodations -that feature reimagined outdoor terraces, personal lounge pools, living areas with plush furnishings, meticulously crafted design elements, and direct beach access.
  • The launches of new restaurants and bar concepts.
  • New wellness experiences at The St. Regis Spa honors authentic cultural practices from Punta Mita, including the introduction of a traditional Temazcal and an expansive Private Spa Suite.

“St. Regis Punta Mita strives to be the pinnacle of luxury not only in Punta Mita, but also the greater destination of Riviera Nayarit,’’  new General Manager Fernando Gibaja told me. “Our goal is to provide guests with an unparalleled experience encapsulating top-notch hospitality known from the St. Regis brand, unique cultural programming, outstanding culinary offerings, and personalized experiences that create unforgettable memories.

“Our staff, from poolside to culinary teams, pride themselves on providing a one-of-a-kind experience for St. Regis Punta Mita guests by curating thoughtful and special moments while tending to guests’ needs, big or small. With our signature St. Regis Butler Service, we ensure our guests experience a highly personalized form of hospitality during their stay at St. Regis Punta Mita, whether they are seeking to book a dining reservation after a long day in the sun. We hope to make each and every guest feel at home at our resort.’’

Gibaja said St. Regis Punta Mita also sets itself apart from other Mexico resorts by going the “extra mile’’ to provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences so our guests feel the comfort of home, while also being able to create memories that last a lifetime.

“Our personalized offerings span local artwork and gallery tours to one-on-one cooking classes with local ingredients; boating, surfing, and fishing excursions; ultra-luxury spa programming from relaxing treatments in our Private Spa Villas to our new Temazcal ceremonies; and in-villa exclusive experiences from private chef dinners to tequila tastings.’’

Home to two Jack Nicklaus signature golf courses, Bahia and Pacifico (and the famous Tail of The Whalepar 3, The St. Regis Punta Mita has been a symbol of luxury hospitality for more than 15 years. And with its two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses, The St. Regis Punta Mita needs to be on every golfer’s “must play’’ list. Each has an outstanding resort-style layout, with Pacifico generally being the more popular thanks to its eight oceanside holes and the Tale of Whale.

“The courses are just steps outside of St. Regis Punta Mita, making our resort highly popular amongst golfing guests,’’ Gibaja said. “We find that many guests prefer to book morning tee times to enjoy lower temperatures, followed by lunch by our various pools and an afternoon at the resort or local beach.’’

The Punta Mita golf courses recently joined forces with VDV Internacional Golf Manejo to host the inaugural WCM Mexico Senior Open from November 14-17, 2024. The event, with six-time Major Champion Lee Trevino serving as an ambassador, is expected to be a landmark addition to the Legends Tour and mark a significant milestone in the history of Mexican golf.

Punta Mita will also celebrate the return of its annual Gourmet & Golf festival on December 5-8, 2024. This festival is a weekend of lively golf tournaments, cuisine, bespoke spirits, and entertainment.

“The St. Regis Punta Mita is one of the original resorts in the region that has helped establish Punta Mita and the greater Riviera Nayarit as a private and luxurious destination,’’ Gibaja said. “Heading into 2025, we are seeing an influx of luxury hospitality brands coming into the market, from Montage to Pendry, Auberge, One & Only, and more. The St. Regis Punta Mita remains an icon that has been further elevated by our comprehensive renovation and redesign.

“Everything in St. Regis Punta Mita’s transformation – from the renovated accommodations to the exclusive on-site experiences, wellness programming, culinary concepts, and beyond – has helped to introduce a new standard of luxury in Punta Mita, complemented by the resort’s long-standing reputation as an icon in the region for over 15 years. We are not only seeing guests excited to visit for the first time, but also to create a tradition of visiting St. Regis Punta Mita that can last for generations.’’
