Strong Tournament Schedule for McConnell Golf

McConnell Golf is continuing its partnership with the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), as upcoming women’s golf championships will be hosted at courses within the McConnell Golf portfolio through 2029.

The 2024 ACC Women’s Golf Championship will be played at Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, N.C., from April 17-20. In 2025, 2027 and 2029, the championship will return to McConnell Golf-owned Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro — the site where the ACC was originally formed in 1953 and annual host to the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship.

“I think they’re going to enjoy the Tom Fazio-designed Porters Neck,” said McConnell Golf VP of Golf Operations Brian Kittler. “It’s down at the beach, it’s a challenging course with a first-class practice facility, good restaurants to choose from, in addition to lodging. Porters Neck will be an ideal venue for them.”

In 2017, the ACC contested its women’s golf championship for the first time at The Reserve Golf Club in Pawleys Island, S.C., which is another McConnell Golf property, following a nine-year run at Sedgefield. The ACC women returned to The Reserve in 2022, and played the conference championship at Sedgefield in 2019, 2021 and 2023.

Along with the Wyndham Championship (June 10-13) and the prestigious AJGA Wyndham Invitational (June 10-13), Sedgefield will also play host to this year’s inaugural High Point Invitational in October, in association with nearby High Point University.

“High Point’s coach was a former assistant coach at Virginia Tech,” Kittler said. “We’re creating an invitational, hosting it at Sedgefield and we may host it at Old North State Club in the years to come, but there will be a brand-new event this October.”

“The collegiate golf connection goes back to what McConnell Golf stands for. It goes with the philosophy that we always want the best golfers playing our properties. We enjoy seeing the players when they’re young, developing those relationships, following their golf careers and then when you happen to see them 5, 10, 15 years down the road, it’s great to hear about their experiences when they played in a tournament we hosted.

“With the colleges and universities in close proximity to many of our courses, it’s nice to host these talented players and see them grow both on and off the golf course. In addition, when our facilities are hosting events, we get to see junior players from all around the country play our courses. It’s a great sense of pride for us by providing an opportunity for these young men and women to experience.”

In addition, the Korn Ferry Tour once again will host back-to-back championships on McConnell Golf courses — the Visit Knoxville Open at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn., (May 30-June 2) and the UNC Health Championship, returning to Raleigh Country Club (May 30-June 2).

McConnell Golf, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023, is the region’s largest owner of premier private clubs with a portfolio comprised of 16 properties in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
