by | Feb 12, 2025 | News

Tripp Davis and Associates, a renowned golf course architecture firm, is celebrating a significant milestone in 2025. Three of their client clubs have been selected to host prestigious USGA Championships. This achievement highlights the firm’s dedication to excellence in golf course design and their commitment to creating world-class golfing experiences.

“I am so honored to have worked with all three of these clubs to renovate, restore in the case of Oak Hills and Oklahoma City, and redesign in the case of Riverside at Atlanta Athletic Club. Oak Hills originally was designed by A.W. Tillinghast and Oklahoma City was originally designed by Perry Maxwell and Alister MacKenzie. Robert Trent Jones, Sr. was Riverside’s architect.  I could not be more proud and excited for these clubs to be hosting USGA Championships this year.”

Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club

Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club in Nichols Hills, Oklahoma, will host the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship in May.  This historic course was initially designed by Perry Maxwell and Alister MacKenzie, opened in 1929, and underwent a significant renovation and restoration by Tripp Davis and Associates in 2020. The renovation included updating drainage, cart paths, tees, greens, and bunkers and re-grassing the course with Latitude 36 Bermudagrass for tees and fairways and 007 bentgrass for the greens. The project aimed to restore the original strategic intent and style of the course while enhancing playability and maintaining the unique character of the greens.

Atlanta Athletic Club’s Riverside Course

In July, the Riverside Course at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia, will welcome the U.S. Junior Girls’ Championship. Robert Trent Jones Sr. originally designed this storied course alongside the Chattahoochee River; the course underwent a comprehensive redesign by Tripp Davis and Associates in 2022. The renovation focused on updating the course infrastructure, including tees, greens, and bunkers, and enhancing the natural beauty of the Riverside terrain. The redesign also aimed to make the course more enjoyable and strategically engaging for members and high-level players. The project’s key components were rerouting of several holes and installing a new irrigation system.

Oak Hills Country Club

The historic Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, will host the U.S. Senior Amateur in August. Initially designed by A.W. Tillinghast, the course underwent a renovation and restoration by Tripp Davis and Associates, completed in the spring of 2018. The project included updating the course infrastructure, such as tees, greens, and bunkers, and enhancing the overall playability and aesthetics of the course. The renovation aimed to preserve the classic design elements while incorporating modern features to improve the golfing experience.
