Valspar Championship Features Another Terrific Field in Tampa

by | Mar 18, 2024 | Pro News

The 4-event, month-long Florida Swing concludes on one of the better courses the PGA TOUR players compete on.  The Valspar Championship begins Thursday on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in the Tampa Bay Area.

11 of the top 30 players in the Official World Golf Rankings are here, and that’s a huge tribute to Tournament Director Tracy West, her team, the Copperheads Charities, and of course, the title sponsor.

The Valspar Championship lines up immediately following The Players Championship, and another elevated prize purse the week before at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, so it’s no small feat to assemble perhaps the best field in the tournament’s history.

“The best players in the world are competing on the PGA TOUR, and competing here,” West said. “People come out to people watch, to experience the food, the fun and the excitement, and they know we’re going to have a collection of the world’s finest golfers playing the Copperhead Course.

West and her colleagues work all year long to engage the community and to provide the best possible experience for the fans.

Top-10 players Xander Schauffele and Reigning Open Championship winner Brian Harman are entered as is two-time PGA Champion Justin Thomas and three-time major winner Jordan Spieth, who claimed this event 9 years ago.

Taylor Moore seeks to become only the third player to successfully defend the Valspar Championship, joining Sam Burns (2021-22) and Paul Casey (2018-19).

“It’s always your dream to win a PGA TOUR event” Moore said in a recent interview. “The fact that my first one came on such a great golf course in a tournament with so much history, makes it even better.”

Valspar Championship

The Valspar Championship, the most colorful PGA TOUR tournament in the world, takes place at the Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort in Florida.

The Copperhead layout is unique as it plays through the woods and a large number of pros consider it a great tune up for The Masters next month.

Selected by the PGA TOUR as the Most Fan First Event last season, the Valspar is always striving to be even more appealing to fans.

For those who will be on site, Country music star Cole Swindell will be in concert on the Osprey Driving Range soon after conclusion of third round play this Saturday, March 23. West says there is no cost to attend beyond a tournament ticket and kids 15 and under are admitted with a paid adult.

The 2024 Valspar Championship will also provide what they are calling “Open To All” Complimentary Seating Areas with upscale menu offerings as well as a large Fan Expo and a decorated mini-home exhibition, featuring Valspar Paints’ Color of the Year “Renew Blue.”

Tickets are still available by visiting  ValsparChampionship.com.
