In a sweeping announcement that reaffirms New York state golf’s prominence, Governor Kathy Hochul and the PGA of America have revealed plans to host three major tournaments across the state over the next decade. These prestigious events—each a cornerstone of professional golf—will be held at two of the sport’s most iconic venues: Bethpage Black and Oak Hill Country Club.
The announcement comes as anticipation builds for the 2025 Ryder Cup, which will be contested at Bethpage Black, a public course revered for its brutal beauty and electric atmosphere. With this lineup, the New York State Golf Championships are poised to deliver a decade of unforgettable moments, economic impact, and global attention.
Bethpage Black: Ryder Cup Returns to the People’s Course
Bethpage Black, located in Farmingdale on Long Island, will host the 45th Ryder Cup from September 26–28, 2025. Known for its challenging layout and passionate New York crowds, Bethpage has previously hosted the U.S. Open (2002, 2009) and the PGA Championship (2019). The Ryder Cup, however, brings a unique energy—team competition, national pride, and match play drama.
The last Ryder Cup was held in 2023 at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, where Team Europe triumphed over Team USA with a score of 16.5 to 11.5. The 2025 edition will see Team USA led by captain Keegan Bradley and Team Europe by Luke Donald, with Bethpage’s raucous galleries expected to play a pivotal role.
New York State Parks Commissioner Pro Tempore Randy Simons emphasized the significance of hosting such events at public venues:
“Bethpage State Park is more than a golf course—it’s a symbol of public access to world-class experiences. Hosting these championships reinforces our commitment to making elite recreation available to all New Yorkers while showcasing the best our state has to offer,” Simons said.
3 New York State Golf Championships
The three New York state golf championships announced are:
Championship #1: 2028 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Bethpage Black
In June 2028, Bethpage Black will make history as the first public course to host the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. This prestigious event, co-run by the PGA of America and the LPGA, features one of the strongest fields in women’s golf and offers a top-tier purse.
It will be the eighth time the Women’s PGA Championship is held in New York, but the first since 2015, when Westchester Country Club hosted the tournament. Bringing it to Bethpage not only elevates the event’s visibility but also reinforces the state’s commitment to gender equity in sports.
LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler noted, “Venues matter. They elevate our athletes and amplify the moments that define our game.” Bethpage Black, with its storied history and public accessibility, is the perfect stage for such a milestone.
Championship #2: 2033 PGA Championship Returns to Bethpage Black
Bethpage Black will again take center stage in May 2033 when it hosts the PGA Championship for the second time. The course last welcomed this major in 2019, when Brooks Koepka held off Dustin Johnson to win by two strokes, despite a late-round stumble.
The 2033 edition will mark the 15th time New York has hosted the PGA Championship—more than any other state. With its demanding layout and fervent fan base, Bethpage promises another unforgettable chapter in major championship history.
Championship #3: 2035 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club
Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, near Rochester, will host the 2035 PGA Championship, its fifth time staging the event. The East Course is revered for its classic design and has previously crowned champions like Jack Nicklaus (1980), Shaun Micheel (2003), Jason Dufner (2013), and Brooks Koepka (2023).
The 2035 tournament will coincide with Oak Hill’s centennial celebration, adding historical weight to the event. Oak Hill Country Club President Ron Billitier expressed pride in the club’s continued partnership with the PGA of America: “We are extremely grateful for our partnership with the PGA of America, and we are excited to bring the 2035 PGA Championship back to Oak Hill Country Club,” Billitier said.
“The East Course, our membership, and the Greater Rochester community welcome the opportunity to test the world’s best golfers in an iconic and world-class setting here at Oak Hill. Having recently hosted our fourth PGA Championship on the restored East Course, we’re confident our fifth will set a new standard and honor a worthy champion.”
The 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill generated an estimated $190 million in economic impact, and the 2035 edition is expected to build on that success.
A Legacy of Excellence in the Empire State
Governor Hochul framed the announcement as a strategic investment in sport, tourism, and community pride: “New York State is further establishing its reputation as one of the best golf destinations in the world by welcoming the PGA of America for this marquee lineup of elite golf competition,” Hochul said.
These New York State Golf Championships will draw hundreds of thousands of spectators, boost local economies, and showcase the state’s world-class venues. From the public fairways of Bethpage to the storied greens of Oak Hill, New York is ready to host the world’s best and inspire the next generation of golfers.
