Butterfield Bermuda Championship Delivers Triumphant First Win for Schenk

by | Nov 16, 2025 | Pro News

Adam Schenk endured winds gusting to 40 miles per hour to win the Butterfield Bermuda Championship by one shot.

Tied for the lead with Braden Thornberry heading into the final round, Schenk closed with an even-par 71 to finish at 12-under 272. Chandler Phillips also shot 71 to finish alone in second at 11 under, the best finish of his career. Five players tied for third at 10 under.

The victory at Port Royal Golf Course, which came in the 33-year-old’s 243rd Tour start, earned him $1.08 million. And it advanced Schenk from 134th to 67th in the FedExCup Fall standings with one event remaining.

“I was really hoping this day would come at some point in my life,” said Schenk, who finished second twice in 2023. “You never really know if it is. That’s what makes the journey so amazing, interesting, and it’s a surreal moment when it finally does.”

Clutch Par Putt for the Win

Securing the victory wasn’t easy. After finding the fairway with his tee shot on the 410-yard, par-4 18th hole, Schenk hit his approach just over the green. He putted through the fringe and came up five feet short of the cup. He needed to make the par putt to preserve his one-shot lead and he did, gently rolling it over the front edge of the center of the hole and exhaling deeply afterwards.

“That was just a massive putt for me to make,” Schenk said. “A massive putt to have go in. It’s life-changing. I get (a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour).

“It’s just such a big relief to have that last putt go in.”

Schenk sank several other critical putts before his final one. He made nervy par putts of 6 to 8 feet on the 12th and 14th holes. He missed the green at the par-3 16th, but chipped to 3 feet for another par save.

FedExCup Movers

With his runner-up finish, Phillips moved from No. 139 to No. 92 in the FedExCup standings.

“This year has not gone well, it’s been a struggle,” Phillips said. “To have one event left and put this right in front of it, I’m excited. I’m excited to get to Sea Island.”

Takumi Kanaya of Japan, who was paired with Schenk in the final group, could have tied Schenk with a birdie on the final hole. But he hit his approach into a back bunker, splashed out to four feet, then lipped out his par putt to finish in that third-place tie.

A par would have moved Kanaya from No. 120 in the FedExCup standings to No. 83. The bogey moved him up to No. 99 with the RSM Classic, the last event on the fall schedule.

Kanaya, who closed with a 72, tied with Alex Smalley (68), Vince Whaley (70), Frankie Capan III (70) and Max McGreevy (72).

McGreevy entered the week at No. 100 in the FedExCup Fall standings and moved to No. 89 with his third top-10 finish of the year. The top 100 players in the standings after the RSM Classic will earn exempt status on Tour for the 2026 season. Players moving out of the top 100 were Max Homa (did not play/No. 96 to No. 101), Matt Wallace (missed cut/No. 97 to No. 102) and Beau Hossler (missed cut/No. 98 to No. 103).
