Members of the Sarasota National Golf Community in Venice, FL., have approved a golf course master plan designed by the golf architectural firm Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design. The multi-million-dollar renovation project will focus on enhancing the course’s playability for all skill levels, improving sustainability, and seamlessly incorporating the natural beauty of the Sarasota National community, an Audubon International Certified Signature Sanctuary. Renovation work will begin in the spring of 2026.

Fry/Straka’s master plan calls for redesigning the entire golf course, including rebuilding all greens to USGA specifications, re-grassing all fairways, roughs, and tee boxes, and installing a new state-of-the-art irrigation system. All bunkers will also be modified, reshaped, and rebuilt. The new course will measure 7,406 yards from the tips and play to a par of 72. Dana Fry and Jason Straka will also oversee the expansion and improvement of the club’s practice facility, including a 47,000-square foot putting complex and a 1.75-acre short game area.

The Gordon Lewis-designed course originally opened for play in 2008 and is surrounded by native wetlands and preserves. In addition to golf, Sarasota National members also have recreational amenities such as pickleball, tennis, bocce ball, swimming, whirlpool tub, playground, fitness center, card room, library and a full-service spa.
The 13,167-square-foot Palm Club includes a restaurant, bar and lounge, library, coffee room, meeting room, and multi-purpose room.
