Caledonia and True Blue – Rank in South Carolina’s Top 5 Courses

Golfweek Magazine has released its highly anticipated list of “The Best Courses You Can Play 2023.” According to the ranking, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Golf Club have both secured positions in the top 5 public golf courses in South Carolina.

Many believe that the Palmetto State is America’s top golf destination, with numerous golf trips, PGA Tour events, and major championships hosted there. The Golfweek rankings further solidify this reputation by ranking Caledonia and True Blue among the state’s top courses. According to the popular list, Caledonia was ranked fourth and was closely followed by True Blue at number five.

Since its opening in 1994, Caledonia, the first independent design by Mike Strantz, has been a prominent destination in the golf travel scene, and its popularity has continued to rise. Caledonia was masterfully created by Strantz on a limited 120-acre plot of land, showcasing the breathtaking beauty of the Low-country.

Caledonia is widely regarded as one of the top 100 public courses, featuring a stunning landscape of majestic live oak trees adorned with Spanish moss. The course is impeccably maintained, which further enhances the overall experience. From start to finish, playing at Caledonia is a delightful experience, with the attention-grabbing par 4 18th hole being particularly unforgettable.

The par 3s on this course are exceptionally strong, among the best one-shotters in the Myrtle Beach area. Notably, hole No. 17 boasts an expansive green, while also being completely encircled by sand.

True Blue is located just under a mile away and provides a distinct yet equally pleasurable experience. True Blue is one of the biggest courses in South Carolina and one of the most challenging, featuring wide fairways, expansive waste bunkers, and complex greens with multiple tiers.

True Blue has also been consistently recognized as one of the top 100 public courses in America and is home to fairways that are upwards of 100 yards wide and greens complexes with as many pin locations as any in the state, providing a variety of setup options that golfers love.

The fourth hole is a challenging par 5 that curves around a lake. It’s well-known in the area for its unique button hook design, which requires players to make strategic risk-reward decisions at every turn. It’s one of five par 5s on a course that demands power, precision, and finesse.
